Abbott was a native of Burnley, Lancashire.
Pictured right is Thomas Abbott on his wedding day. In the photo he is standing on the left, wearing his DCM. Thomas Abbott married Minnie Abbott in May of 1919.
The citation for the D.C.M. published in the London Gazette reads, "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When all his company officers had become casualties, he took charge of the company and, with the survivors, repelled numerous counter attacks. He continued to perform invaluable work until wounded".
