Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in the London Gazette of 3 September 1918. Awarded the Belgium Croix de Guerre in the London Gazette of 15th May 1918.

Alderson was a native of Padiham, Lancashire.

The citation for the D.C.M. published in the London Gazette reads, "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations, when he kept his company together under most difficult circumstances after a counter attack had been broken up, and organised it against the enemy, who had nearly turned his left and endangered the whole brigade front. His courage and ability was most marked."

Born on the 12th October 1888. Died on the 18th June 1969 at Accrington, Lancashire. Served throughout the Great War and was entitled to the 1914 Star with bar and British War and Victory Medals for this service in addition to his gallantry awards.
