The Military Medal was awarded for, "Gallantry in action north of Fampoux during the period 28 - 31 March 1918, when the German Army attempted to capture Vimy Ridge." At the time of the award Blackledge was living at 119 Barden Lane, Burnley, Lancashire. He later ran a painting and decorating business at Colne Road, Burnley, Lancashire.
