"Soldiers Died in the Great War" shows, died of wounds 10 October 1917.

Born and enlisted at Burnley, Lancashire.

In the London Gazette following his citation for the Distinguished Conduct Medal, he is reported as being born at Brough, Westmoreland.

The citation for the Distinguished Conduct Medal published in the London Gazette reads, "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty dring an attack. When part of the advance was held up by machine gun fire from a blockhouse, he captured it single handed, killing the garrison. He repeated this exploit later in the advance, and showed great courage and devotion on each occasion."
