2nd Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment.

Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in the London Gazette of 17 April 1918.

Mentioned in Dispatches in the London Gazette of 22 May 1917.

Carefoot was a native of Burnley, Lancashire.

The citation for the Distinguished Conduct Medal published in the London Gazette reads: - "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty since the first day of the war. By his energy, courage and example, often under most trying circumstances he assured the battalion received their rations, no matter where they were situated. At one period it was only owing to his fine determination that the ration party had passed through a very heavy barrage and successfully delivered the rations."
