Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in the London Gazette of 3 March 1917.

Dugdale was a native of Brierfield, Lancashire.

The citation for the Distinguished Conduct Medal published in the London Gazette reads, "For conspicuous gallantry in action. He displayed great courage and initiative in directing groups of men during the attack and in organising the defence of the position won".

Commissioned into the East Lancashire Regiment and whilst 2/Lieutenant (Temp), attached to the 1st Battalion he died of wounds on the 7 July 1918.
