Eastwood was a native of Nelson, Lancashire.
The citation for his bar to the Military Medal is published in the "History of the 25th Division" on page 173 and reads, "On 22 March, 1918, west of Beaumetz-les-Cambrai, this NCO showed conspicuous bravery throughout the enemy attack. He was in charge of the Lewis Gun section. When the line was withdrawn, although in danger of being cut of by the enemy, he refused to retire until he had fired his last Lewis Gun magazine into the enemy, and thereby held up the attack."
