Forrester was a native of Nelson, Lancashire.

The citation for the Distinguished Conduct Medal published in the London Gazette reads, "For conspicuous gallantry in action. He handled his platoon with great courage and skill during a most intense enemy bombardment, and set a splendid example throughout."

Killed in action on the 28 October 1918.
