The Burnley Express of 25 January 1919 reported, CORPORATION EMPLOYEE DECORATED. A memorable occasion in the military career of Sergeant Major Augustine Frankford was the decoration by the mayor at the Palace on Monday night when he pinned on his breast the medal for meritorious service. That was the first time he had been so honoured by the mayor of the town in which he resides. Regimental Sergeant Major Frankford belongs to the machine gun section of the East Lancashire Regiment, in which he enlisted in 1914. He would have preferred to go to France with that regiment but his service were required elsewhere, and he went to Macedonia in January 1916. For his services in the Boer War he was awarded the Queen's and King's medals and also wears the 1906 South African Rebellion medal. Aged 38, he was employed before re-enlisting into the East Lancashire Regiment with the Burnley Corporation. He resides at 5, Hinton Street, Burnley.
