Hasty was a native of Padiham, Lancashire.

From the Burnley News of 17 November 1917, Padiham Sergeant. South African War Hero Wins Military Medal. Sergeant Anthony Hasty, whose wife resides at 1, Ribble Street, Padiham, has been recommended for the Military Medal. It appears that he was wounded on 9 October 1917, and after being in hospital in France for a short time, he returned to his unit, when he wrote to his wife informing her that he had been recommended for the Military Medal, "for attending to wounded under heavy shell fire." She got the letter on Sunday last. Sergeant Hasty saw two years' service in the South African War, when he was little more than a boy, and he got two medals for that campaign. He rejoined the Army when the present war broke out, and is serving in the East Lancashires. He is 34 years of age, and formerly worked at Hapton Chemical Works.
