6th Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
Awarded the Military Cross in the London Gazette of 18 October 1917, citation published in the London Gazette of 8 March 1918 which reads,
"For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in command of a company during an action. He grasped the situation at once and kept the battalion headquarters well informed of his and the enemy movements throughout. His steady and calm personality went a long way in keeping his men reassured."
Walter Scott Hill was born in Worcester, Worcestershire circa 1881 and on the 1911 census was living at 68, Albion Street, Burnley, Lancashire, single and a Church of England Priest.
He enlisted at Burnley in 1916 and was sent to France to join his battalion on the 16 January 1917.
