The citation for the Distinguished Conduct Medal published in the London Gazette reads, "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the period under review he has rendered valuable services as transport sergeant displaying great gallantry on more than one occasion in bringing the transport wagons under heavy fire, up to the line. The example of his fearless devotion to duty has had a great effect on the battalion".
