Awarded the Military Cross in the London Gazette of 2 April 1919.

The citation published in the Edinburgh Gazette of 11 December 1919 reads, "For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership. Near the Foret de Mormal, on the 6 November, 1918, he led the right company of the battalion to its objective and maintained it there despite heavy enfilade machine-gun fire. His tenacity in holding the position he had gained made it impossible for the enemy to continue to hold the remainder of the line."
