Awarded the Military Cross in the London Gazette of 26 July 1918.

The Burnley Express of the 10 April 1918 reported, ANOTHER M.C. WINNER MISSING. We regret to learn that Captain James Lyell Lee, M.C., of the Lancashire Fusiliers, of Ansdell, and son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Lee is officially reported as missing since the 23 March 1918. Mr. G. Lee is of the firm Messers. J. Lee and Brother Ltd, of Burnley and Preston. On January 9th, this year we announced that he and his cousin, Lieutenant T. C. Parsons of the East Lancashire Regiment had both been awarded the Military Cross.

Served in France from the 26 February 1917.

Captain James Lyell Lee was a prisoner of war from 23 March 1918.
