Lomax was a native of Nelson, Lancashire.

The citation for the Distinguished Conduct Medal published in the London Gazette reads, "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has proved his self to be full of resource and initiative in the forward area when the shelling was very intense. A very gallant man, he has always set a fine example to the stretcher bearers under him".
