Mozely was a native of Colne, Lancashire.
The Burnley Express of 7 December 1918 reported: - COLUNIAN WINS M.M. Information has been received that Private W. Mozley of the East Lancashire Regiment has been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry in action. Private Mostly previously lived in Colne, and his brothers and sisters now reside at 21, Barrowford Road. He enlisted in March 1916, and went to France after 3 months training. He is 24 years of age.
The Colne and Nelson Times of 29 November 1918 carried a similar report but adds to the above, "before enlisting he was employed as a weaver by Messrs. Ratcliffe, Brown and Lancaster, Riverside Mill, Colne. He was formerly connected with Bunkers Hill Primitive Methodist Chapel and School and was in the Chapel choir."
