Mentioned in Dispatches in the London Gazette of 29 May 1917.

Munro was a native of Burnley, Lancashire. The citation for his Military Cross published in the London Gazette reads, "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He worked continuously for forty eight hours under very heavy fire, and was responsible for the evacuation of a large number of wounded soldiers. He set a splendid example to all ranks."
