The citation for the Distinguished Conduct Medal published in the London Gazette reads, "For conspicuous gallantry during operations. When the supply of bombs had run out Private Ogden and L/Corporal Massey mounted their gun on a parapet under heavy rifle fire, and engaged the enemy at 30 yards distance until their gun was put out of action, but not before a fresh supply of bombs had arrived."
