Pratt was a native of Burnley, Lancashire.
The citation for his Distinguished Conduct Medal published in the London Gazette reads, "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On one occasion his company having run short of ammunition, he led parties forward to positions that had been abandoned, and having collected the necessary supplies of ammunition he returned with them to his company. His entire disregard of danger was an inspiration to all ranks."
