The Burnley Express of 18 April 1917 reported, BURNLEY CONSTABLE WINS MILITARY MEDAL. News was received in Burnley on Tuesday that another member of the Burnley Police Force has won the Military Medal. This is P.C 58 William Ridge, who joined the force five years ago, and lodged in Manchester Road, Burnley. He is originally from the Isle of Man and was working in Fence at the time he joined the police. The news of his success was received from his mother who now resides at Portmadoc, North Wales. P.C. Ridge is one of several members of the Burnley Police Force who joined the Royal Berkshire Regiment at the outbreak of war.
