Robinson was a native of Burnley, Lancashire.
The citation for the Distinguished Conduct Medal published in the London Gazette reads, "At Brie near Peronne, on the 5th September 1918, he displayed conspicuous gallantry and dash in rushing a machine-gun which was enfilading his company and causing many casualties. He bombed the crew and forced them to surrender, and then working along the trench drove another gun team into a dug-out and bombed them until they surrendered."
Arthur Robinson was the brother of 19794 Sergeant Robert Robinson, 15th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment who won the Military Medal.
