The Burnley Express reported:-

Two decorations - British and Russian - have been conferred upon Lance-Corporal John Robinson of the East Lancashire Regiment, who formerly resided with his wife and two children at 17, Nicholas Street, Colne. This non-commissioned officer, who was a native of Nelson had served a term in the East Lancashire Regiment, but re-joined the army when war broke out, leaving his employment with the Nelson Corporation. He was soon at the front, took part in several actions and was once wounded in the wrist. For gallantry at Vimy Ridge he has been awarded the Military Medal, and he has been presented with the Russian Medal for Gallantry at Neuve Chappelle.
