The Burnley Express of 20 July 1918 reported, MEDAL FOR WHEATLEY LANE MAN, 119721 Private Robert Scott of the Machine Gun Corps has been awarded the Military Medal "for bravery on the 24 June 1918 on the Italian Front." Scott who is 30 years of age with 2 children lives at 1, Pollard Row, Wheatley Lane. He was formerly a carter for Mr. Atkinson of Barrowford. He enlisted on the 20 June 1917 and went out to France in December last.
