Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in the London Gazette of 10 January 1920.
Waterworth was a native of Burnley, Lancashire.
The citation for his Distinguished Conduct Medal published in the London Gazette reads, "For marked gallantry and dash near Briastre. On the night of 19th-20th October 1918, during an assault, he was wounded soon after the start, but continued to lead his section. At a critical moment, when his men hesitated in face of enemy machine-gun fire, he led his men against the machine-gun that was causing the trouble, and captured it and the crew."
