Willetts was a native of Burnley, Lancashire.
The Burnley The Burnley Express of 3 May 1919 reported, EIGHT HEROES RECEIVE THEIR MEDALS, amongst whom was L/8941 Gunner John Willetts of the Royal Field Artillery. Willetts lived at 1, Guy Street, Burnley. The report goes on to say that willetts and four others were buried when a shell exploded near them, they would have all perished but for the action of their officer.
