Over the
last few years there has been a significant number of new memorials erected
on the Western Front. This has been as a result of the increasing interest
in the 'War to end all Wars' .
Some months ago it was suggested
by Dennis Otter that it would be timely to have a memorial to the men
from Burnley who never returned.
After some discussion it was decided
that a general memorial to all Burnley men was not practical and so we
decided on a specific memorial to the men of Z company who fell before
Serre during the opening day of the battle of the Somme.
