Lads Club Worker Presumed Dead. (Burnley Express 28th July 1917 )

The Army Council have been regretfully constrained to conclude that Pte Henry Blythe (26694) Lancashire Fusiliers, second son of Mr and Mrs Blythe, of 8 Richard Street, Burnley, is dead. He has been missing since July 30th of last year. At that time he was 26 years of age. He enlisted in the previous February, and saw three weeks service in France. Prior to joining the Army he was a weaver at Halstead’s, Burnley Lane. He was a prominent member and an official of the Burnley Lads’ Club. Fond of exercise and outdoor life he was an enthusiastic footballer, and won several medals. No light has been thrown on the circumstances under which he went missing.
