Regimental War Diary 21st March 1918

4.30 a.m.Enemy commenced a heavy gas and H.E. shelling. Gas shelling ceased about 9.30 a.m. Enemy attacked under cover of fog at about 10.30 a.m.. The three companies in the line were out flanked and attacked from the rear. A splendid resistance was made but most of the officers and men became casualties or were taken prisoners. The commanding officer was wounded and taken prisoner.
The reserve company fought a magnificent rearguard action under Captain Bolton who was wounded and taken prisoner
