Burnley ‘Pal’ Missing. (Burnley Express August 12th 1916 )

The parents of Pte. John Calvert, of the Burnley ‘Pals’ are very anxious to learn some definite news. The last message received from their son was on a field card dated 30 June, and nothing has been heard of him since the pals were in action on July 1st. from one source Mr and Mrs Calvert have learned that their boy is not in his regiment, and the Preston Record Office say he is not posted as a casualty. His particular friends were Pte. Fred Stott and Pte. Fred Camm. The latter has been killed and a few days ago the parents of Pte. Stott, whose name is on Bank Street, had heard nothing of him.”

Private 15582 Fred Stott, 11th Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment died on 1st July 1916 and is buried in Railway Hollow Cemetery.
