Harry Fish
was born in Burnley the son of Arthur & Alice Ann Fish of 48 Croft
Street, Burnley. He enlisted in Burnley as Private 5439 in the 2nd Battalion
of the East Lancashire Regiment and was killed aged 20 on Sunday 15th
November 1914. He is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial , Panel 18.
Harry served under the pseudonym of Harry Dale.

On
Tuesday Mr and Mrs Fish, of 48 Croft Street, Burnley, received a notification
from the Preston Record Office that their son, Pte. Harry Fish of the
3rd East Lancashire Regiment had been killed in action on November 15th
at a place not stated.
The deceased, who was only 20 years of age was a special reservist, and
went into camp in July - the week before Burnley Fair - and never returned
home. The first place he was at was Fleetwood, and from there he was transferred
to several training places in the south of England. He celebrated his
20th birthday on Wednesday October 10th and he went across to France on
the following Friday. He joined the Special Reserve just 10 months ago.
When in Burnley he had worked at Messrs Lee’s weaving shed.”
Herbert Fish (brother?)
was christened at St Peter’s Church on 7/3/1897. His parents were
Arthur and Alice Ann Fish of 6 Chaffer Street. His father’s occupation
was listed as weaver.
