Lieutenant Charles Stanley Haslam THE LATE LIEUT. C.S HASLAM ( Burnley Express 21st November 1917 ) As briefly announced in Saturday’s issue, Lieutenant Charles Stanley
Haslam, of Yorkshire Hussars, attached Yorkshire Regiment, was killed
on November 10th. He was the second son of the late Thomas Haslam, of
the firm of Haslam Brothers Limited cotton spinners and manufacturers,
Burnley and Colne, and of Mrs. Haslam, Dunham Knoll, Altrincham and formerly
of Healy Mount Burnley. He was educated at Mostyn House, Parkgate Cheshire
and Shrewsbury. He received his commission in the Yorkshire Hussars in
August 1914 and went to France the following April. Recently he was attached
to the West Yorkshire Regiment. For some years before the outbreak of
war he had been farming in Yorkshire, residing at Boroughbridge. He was
a keen sportsman and was for many years a member of the Cheshire Hunt,
and latterly of the York and Ainsty. He was 31 years of age. On Sunday
morning Lieutenant Haslam was mentioned in the special prayers at St Matthew
Church Burnley.
