Thomas Howarth was born at Briercliffe Burnley and enlisted at Bolton in the 15th Battalion of the Welsh Regiment He was the husband of Ann Haworth of 11 Hapton Street, Burnley. He died aged 34 on Wednesday 1st August 1917, aged 34, and was .buried at New Irish Farm Cemetery, Ypres in grave XXV D 5.

The Burnley Express of Oct 6 1917 reported that he was wounded and missing. He was 34 years of age and married with 3 young children. His father lives at 35 Eliza St Fulledge. He was employed at Mr A. Bishop’s glass works at Bolton- previously working at Bishop’s glass works on Holmesley Street in Burnley
