Training with 3rd Btn when war broke out.
France early Dec 1914 (wounded & frost-bitten) Jan 1915 & brought to Harewood Hall,near Leeds
Came to Burnley for a short leave,then back to France in the firing line & after 7 weeks was again wounded in the head in the 2rd battle of Ypres & taken to No 2 Casualty Clearing Station at Bailleul the Rev C H Bailey wrote to Bertie's sister telling her he helped to bury him with full Military Honours.
