intimation was received on Thursday of the death in action of Gunner Robert
(Robbie) Simpson, No. 701197 (2292), younger son of the late Mr. Robert
Simpson, secretary for Butterworth and Dickinson, Ltd., loom makers, and
of Mrs.Simpson, 13 Park-avenue, Burnley. Gunner Simpson, who was 20 years
of age, was killed in action on October 11th. He enlisted in July 1915,
and went on active service in August of this year. Formerly he was on
the staff of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank, under Mr. E. M. Grey.
He was educated at the Grammar School, and was connected with the Wesley
Chapel and Red Lion-street Sunday School. his many friends, by whom he
was affectionately regarded, will regret to hear that Gunner Simpson has
been called upon to make the supreme sacrifice.
