Corpl. Edwin Smith (32) 3806, 11th Lancashire Fusiliers, is now presumed
to have died as a prisoner of war in Germany about March 25th last year.
The deceased soldier was called up as a Reservist on the outbreak of war.
Previously he had worked as a collier at Clifton Pit. Twice he was wounded
during the war (once in the head) and he was also gassed. His mother,
who lives at 52 Croft-street, Burnley, has another son who lives in Australia
