William Tootell was born in Burnley the son of Richard J. & Ellen Tootell of 96 Church Street and later of North Street, Public Baths, Burnley. He enlisted at Penrith as Private
260180 in the 8th Battalion of the Border Regiment. He died aged 23 on 12th April 1918. and is commemorated on Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium. Panel 6.

William Tootell was christened at St Peter’s Church on 26/5/1895. His parents were Richard Joseph and Ellen (?) of 96 Church Street. His father’s occupation was listed as joiner.
William Tootell was admitted to St Peter’s Infant School on 27/3/1900. Born on 29/4/85?. Father was Richard Tootell of 96 Church Street
William Tootell was admitted to St Peter’s Junior School from St Peter’s Infant School on 6/7/1904. Born on 29/4/95. Father was Richard Tootell of 25 Thurston Street He left for Heasandford (higher grade school?) on 21/1/1906
November 2001- William Tootell – a white cross in memory placed for Remembrance Sunday outside the Thompson Centre.
