ROYAL ENGINEER’S DEATH (Burnley Express 04/09/15)


Barrowford and Burnley Lane people will regret to learn of the death of Lance Corporal John Walmsley of the Royal Engineers. He was a nephew of Mr John East, of Albert Mills, Barrowford, and formerly of Burnley Lane, and a well known St Andrew’s cricketer. Lance Corporal Walmsley died on August 20th at Port Mudros, near the Gallipoli Peninsula, and the official information states that he died from dysentery. He resided with his uncle at Ryedale, Gisburn Road, Barrowford, before he joined the forces.
