"For conspicuous gallantry on the 9th May 1915, at
Bellewaarde Lake. After the
Regimental Dressing Station had been removed to Wittepoort Farm, a distance
of about half a mile,he volunteered to remain with four wounded men and
try and get them away.He carried two men a distance of 200 yards across
the open, under a very heavy fire to safety,and, obtaining assistance,
he succeeded in bringing in the remaining two wounded men"
