AN ONLY SON’S DEATH (Burnley Express 2/11/1918) Mr. And Mrs.
Schofield, of 17, Dean-street, Burnley, have been notified of the death
of their son, Pte. John Schofield, 42280, of the Suffolk Regt., on October
17th, in a French Casualty Clearing Station, from wounds received in action.
The deceased soldier, who was 22 years of age, joined the Forces in January
1916 being then employed as a grocery assistant with the Co-operative
Society. He is on the roll of honour at Holy Trinity Church-where a special
service will be held to-morrow- and attended the Mitre-street Sunday School.
He had been out since March 1917. He was an only son, but has several
cousins and an uncle serving.
