Researching my Burnley Great War Ancestor
The "Burnley in the Great War" site receives many requests for more information on family members who served in the Great War, and usually refers the enquiry to Croonaert Research Services who provide an excellent specialist military research service. This provides the details of his military service, but, in all but the most comprehensive package on offer, excludes information on the environment he lived in prior to him being "called to the colours". we have now combined forces with Croonaert
Research Services to provide a comprehensive picture
of the military life This will comprise of the following : Option One (Soldiers who survived) 1 : search for surviving service papers -although between 60-70% of these papers were destroyed during the blitz, if they do survive they can reveal a wealth of information. This could range from his physical description : height, chest size, colours of his eyes, distinguishing marks to details of his wife and children, brief details of his military service- where he served and when, any misdemeanors he committed. It may also contain correspondence from both during and after the war by the soldier or his relatives. (If service papers do survive copies will be provided at an additional 15p per page ) 2 : A search of the
Medal Rolls and Medal Index Cards, this will reveal which Great War
