Sergeant
John William Adams He was born in Padiham in 1884 the Son of William Henry Adams (1859-1906) and Ellen Anne Adams (1860-1941) I believe he joined the Border regiment at Carlisle sometime between 1902-1906 with his mother and siblings moving to the Lowerhouse area of Burnley. He is listed on my grandfathers birth certificate as being a sergeant in 1916, and family rumour was that he was injured sometime during the Great War. I found an entry in the soldiers who survived the war part on your website I believe to be him and there is also an entry of his Brother Thomas, who I know from family research emigrated to America in 1910 at the age of 18 and returned in 1913 and married a Ms Annie Wilkinson at St John the Baptist Church, Gannow, Burnley. He served in the Seaforth Highlanders and the Labour Corp during the Great War. He returned to America after the war in 1920, with his wife and they had one daughter and two sons, sadly passing away in 1968.
