Sergeant John Bergin

Enlisted in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment on the 4th January 1890, and later served in the Lancashire Fusiliers (7473) His occupation at that time is recorded as a weaver. Served 2 and a half years in South Africa and also2 years in Gibraltar and 2 years in Malta.

Court Martialed 5th May 1900 for "allowing a prisoner to escape"

Discharged on the 3rd January 1911, time expired aged 41 years and at that time his address was recorded as the Grand Duchess, Gibbons Street, Plymouth

Awarded the MSM 1st August 1945 with annuity (recommended in 1927) and QSA Bars SA01 and SA 02 (7473 Sgt Lancashire Fusiliers)

Re-enlisted 1st September 1914 living at Baron Terrace Healey Wood occupation Beer Retailer, and spent the war as a physical training instructor.

Served home from 1st September 1914 to 24th September 1919 when he was transferred to Class Z. Promoted to QMS 21st September 1917

Married Alice Williamson in Chelmsford, Essex on 8th January 1898
