Gunner John Thomas Binns
112551 Royal Garrison Artillery
Lived at 11 Wynotham Street

He was a very well known local cricketer – paying for both Lowerhouse and Burnley, with which he won the League in 1906 and 07, before he went off to be pro at Oldham. Originally a weaver, he later became steward of Keighley Green WMC and certainly worked at the Wellington Hotel on Todmorden Rd.

I’ve attached some images of a very precious cricket ball recording J-T’s remarkable bowling feat against Church which won Burnley CC the Lancashire League in 1907. During his career he played with and against the legendary Sidney Barnes. He once ran him out, bowled him out twice and knocked 40 runs off his bowling!
