Private Harry Carr
45975 4th South Lancashire Regiment
Formerly Royal Field Artillery
Lived at 13 Tentre Street
"Harry Carr was my husband’s grandfather.
He initially joined up in March 1915 at the age of 15, with the Royal
Field Artillery. He arrived in France at Christmas 1915 and was sent home
when his age was discovered in July 1916. He then fathered a child, married,
reenlisted with the 4th S Lancs regiment in January 1918 and returned
to France in August 1918. I have found his service records online."
"Willie Hartley Spencer (25690) and Watson Spencer were Harry’s
half brothers. I know nothing more about their war records other than
the details on your website. I cannot find their records online. If you
have any more information or could suggest where I might find out more
about their service I’d be grateful."

"I’m also attaching the family photo. I think this
was probably taken in their house in Colne sometime in 1914. It’s
easy to see how Harry managed to join up so young. He is the tall fair
youth standing. His half brothers, Willie Hartley Spencer and Watson Spencer,
are the other two young men. I’m not sure which is which. His parents,
Harry Carr and Sarah Jane Carr nee Hartley and formerly Spencer, are also
in the picture. In 1915 the family moved from Colne to Burnley to take
over the shop run by Sarah Jane’s father Robert."
