Samuel Fallows was born in Burnley in 1894, the son of Joseph Fallows and Jane Fallows(nee Pickup). In 1911 aged 17, he was working as a Colliery Drawer (Bank Hall Colliery), and living with his parents, 6 brothers and 1 sister at 27 Anne Street, Fulledge.

He enlisted in the 1/5th(TF) East Lancs on the 15th April 1913. On the 10th September 1914 he embarked from Southampton to Egypt with the 1/5th ELR and the other units of the 42nd East Lancashire Division arriving in Port Said Egypt on the 25th September 1914. On the 10th May 1915 he arrived in the Dardenelles(Gallipoli). After enduring the fierce battles of Gallipoli he left on the 18th January 1916 for Egypt. In March 1917 he left Egypt and and arrived in Marseilles. He was granted home leave in the UK in 1917, during that leave he married Isabella Kenniford. He returned to France to fight with 1/5th ELR to the end of the war, with a couple of leave periods in between. Apart from a field punishment for overstaying one of his leave periods (late return), he had a clean record with no hospitilazation, and was discharged on the 25th January 1919, after spending 5 years 286 days with colours.

He lived at 57 Anne Street, Fulledge, Burnley after demobilisation. He died in December 1965 aged 71 years, his home abode was still Anne Street, Burnley, and was buried at Burnley Cemetery, Grave A9042 on the 14th December 1965.
