Private
William Victor Greenwood
10959 Royal Army Medical Corps
In 1911 my father-in
law W.V Greenwood was a Habergham Eaves resident .
He joined the RAMC in 1914/15.
He saw service at Gallipoli and
in Egypt in World War One in the Royal
Army Medical Corp (service # 10959 or 7248074). An old notebook which
has survived records his movements at that time.
"Left Aldershot 17/5/15:
Sailed 19/5/15: Landed Lamnos Island 29/5/15:
Left Lamnos for Embros 2/8/15: Arrived Embros Island 2/8/15: Left Embros
Island for Suvla Bay 6/8/15: Landed Suvla Bay 6/8/15: Left Suvla Bay for
Embros (no date): Left Embros for Alexandria 24/12/15: Arrived
Alexandria 1/1/16: Left Alex for Port Said 16/1/17. Arrived Port Said
16/1/17".
He seems to have served his
time out in the desert. A further entry in
his notebook records the death of soldier who according to the War
Graves web page was killed at Beersheba.
We are trying to find some objective evidence as to the Units he served
with and wonder if you have or know of a source of the WW1 enrolments
to
the RAMC that took place in Burnley.
