Sergeant
William Albert Haworth
"My great-grandfather was William Albert Haworth (No. 14569, surname often misspelled as Howarth). He worked on the Burnley tramways before signing up at the start of the war. He started out as a Corporal but by the end of the war had reached the rank of (Acting?) Colour Sergeant. I would love to know more about his service and how he rose through the ranks, but sadly his Service Record hasn’t survived. Unfortunately he was gassed in Macedonia which led to his very early death in Jan 1925. His son, my grandfather, was only 3 at the time so no stories have been passed down. He was buried in Burnley Cemetery, NE3411" (Courtesy of Naomi Haworth,)
Its not certain if
William A. Haworth is on the photograph above,
