Private Alfred Haywood
40246 4th East Lancashire Regiment
Born Burnley 1898
Later 31210 1/5th Loyal North Lancashire Regiment

The son of James Thomas & Mary Jane Haywood.
Attested on the 20th August 1916 but not called up until 26th April 1918 and taken on the strength of the 4th (Reserve) Bn East Lancashire Regt as 40246.
Landed France 31st August 1918 and transferred to 1/5th Bn Loyal North Lancashire Regiment as 31210.
8th October 1918 received gunshot wound to right chest during an advance at Cambrai. Invalided to UK and discharged 5th March 1919.
The family all appear to have been coal miners.
From what I can discover Alfred appears to have died in Burnley in 1969 aged 71, certainly his Parents are buried there so there may still be other family members living in the Burnley area.
