Sergeant Briggs Heaton
28386 Royal Army Medical Corps
Lived at 306 Gannow Lane
"I
am researching a soldier from Burnley who joined the British Army in 1914,
was then sent to Ireland and joined the RAMC after he has passed his medical
in Dublin. He was sent from Dublin to the Curragh and from the Curragh
to Naas Military Hospital, also in Kildare, where he remained for over
a year. He then appears to have been promoted and transferred to a military
medical hospital in India. He remained there for the rest of the war.
He finally returned
to Burnley to his wife - Sally Sidebotton, 18 Allendale Street, Rosegrove
and I believe he lived to a good old age. His name was Briggs Heaton and
I would really appreciate if you would let me know if you have anything
in your records regarding Briggs or Sally.
Briggs Heaton and his fellow Lancastrians signed up
in Burnley in October/November 1914, why were they sent to Dublin to be
medically examined and processed as fit or unfit for service??
As if happened, Briggs was passed and then sent on to the Curragh
along with 23 fellow Lancs lads.
Surely this would have been done in Burnley ??
