To France on the 25 November 1914. Also awarded the 1914/15 Star, British War and Victory Medals. In 1920 he was still serving in the Border Regiment number 3589420; The regiment embarked for India in 1921 and served on the North West Frontier where Hey qualified for and was awarded the Indian General Service Medal (1908 -1935) bar Waziristan 1921-24.
